FAQ -Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy? Really?

There is a misconception that therapy is for "crazy" people, or people who are mentally ill. The reality is, therapy is beneficial for anyone seeking personal growth, navigating challenges, or improving their mental well-being. If you're feeling overwhelmed, experiencing persistent negative emotions, struggling with relationships, or simply want to understand yourself better, therapy can be a valuable tool.

Therapy provides a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences and process both current and historical events in your life. Your therapist will collaborate with you to identify your goals and assist you in meeting them while, helping you identify and address underlying issues, develop coping strategies, and grow your skills along the way.

Therapy can help you:

  • Gain self-awareness: Understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

  • Develop coping skills: Manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

  • Improve relationships: Enhance communication and connection with others.

  • Address mental health issues: Manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other conditions.

  • Achieve personal growth: Increase self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being.

  • Improve communication and listening skills.

  • Develop new problem-solving strategies within various settings and relationships.

  • Help you identify or clarify direction and assist in decision making skills.

How confidential is therapy?

"What you say in therapy stays in therapy". The law protects the communications between therapist and client. Your information is not disclosed without prior permission from you. However, like most things in life, there are some exceptions to that law.

Exceptions:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, the therapist may take additional measures when necessary to ensure safety, including reporting to emergency contact, police, or local hospital.

How long are sessions?

Typical sessions last 55-60 minutes. Emergency sessions may last longer depending on the crisis situation. EMERGENCY SESSIONS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE TO CURRENT CLIENTS. Intensives last 90- 120 minutes and must be scheduled in advance and are not covered by insurance.
